Fletcher Scholars Sponsorship Program: Transforming Futures Through Faith and Education
What happens when one student dares to believe that their future can be different? That education and faith can change the course of their life and their family’s story?
Welcome to the Fletcher Scholars Sponsorship Program, a life-changing initiative launched by LivingStone International University (LIU) that makes higher education accessible to students who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance.
Through this program, sponsors are invited to invest in more than just tuition, they’re investing in faith, purpose, and long-term transformation for an entire continent.
Let’s take a closer look at how this program started, what makes it unique, and why it’s more than just a scholarship. It’s a lifeline.
The Story Behind the Fletcher Scholars Sponsorship Program
At the heart of this initiative is the story of Rehema.
She left home with only $150 in her pocket and a dream in her heart. Raised in a Muslim family, Rehema made the courageous decision to follow Christ after attending a Gospel meeting. Her choice to convert came with real consequences, her father cut off all financial support.
But that didn’t stop her. Rehema enrolled at LIU to study Media Design, relying entirely on faith, determination, and the generosity of a scholarship.
Today, she’s not just a graduate. She’s a university lecturer, a beacon of hope, and a living example of what God can do through one person’s obedience.
Even more powerful? Her father attended her graduation. He witnessed firsthand how education and Christ transformed her life.
That’s the kind of ripple effect the Fletcher Scholars Sponsorship Program aims to multiply.
Why the Fletcher Scholars Program Is Needed Now More Than Ever
Let’s talk numbers:
- Only 37% of qualified students in Uganda can afford to attend university.
- The average national income is around $620 per year.
- A university degree can increase lifetime income 4 to 5 times.
In Uganda, poverty often isn’t about laziness, it’s about lack of opportunity. Students like Rehema have the brains and the passion, but not the means. That’s where the Fletcher Scholars Sponsorship Program steps in.
Named after longtime LIU advocate Roger Fletcher, the program allows individuals, families, churches, and groups to sponsor a student for $3,200 per year for three years. This amount covers:
- Tuition
- Fees
- Housing
- Daily essentials
- Discipleship and mentorship support
It’s not just an investment in education — it’s an investment in eternity.
