Breaking News – USAID Cuts Impact LIU’s Expansion Efforts 

A Setback, But Not the End of the Story 

In a significant shift, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has paused all grant funding, directly affecting Livingstone International University’s (LIU) plans for expansion in Uganda. This decision, part of broader foreign aid cuts under President Trump’s administration, puts on hold a grant that was crucial in building new facilities for LIU’s growing student body. 

For a university that has become a beacon of education and leadership in East Africa, this sudden suspension poses a major challenge—but not an insurmountable one. 

LIU: A University Built on Vision and Impact 

LIU was founded over a decade ago through the vision and partnership of North Texas churches and ministries. Since then, it has grown to enroll 343 students from nine African nations, providing high-quality education in business, media, education, IT, and ministry. 

The university’s Amplify Campaign is designed to secure funding for campus expansion, including a long-awaited Administration Building and dormitories that will allow LIU to accommodate up to 1,000 students. This expansion is not just about space—it’s about securing a permanent charter from Uganda’s National Committee for Higher Education, solidifying LIU’s credibility as a leading institution. 

What This Means for LIU’s Future 

The USAID grant was set to cover a significant portion of the expansion costs. With this funding now on hold, LIU is faced with a critical challenge: how to move forward without external government aid. 

“We believe in the mission of LIU, and we know that God’s plan will prevail,” shared Craig Stone, Co-Chair of LIU. “This setback is disappointing, but it won’t stop us. We will find a way to build.“ 

Without these essential buildings, LIU’s ability to grow and impact more students and more nations in Africa is limited. But there’s hope—and it starts with those who believe in the power of education and faith.
